Football Recruiting Update

Well, this has been quite a month for football recruiting.  This week we've landed 3 star qb/db Milan Collins, who is a local MD recruit who will play Safety.  Then yesterday Malik Jones, a 3 star (247 sports) OT from Dunbar committed to MD to play DL (most likely NT).  Top that off with the official announcement that Deon Long and Ricardo Young are transferring to MD and it has been a big week so far, and it is only Thursday.

Bino's on the hunt

And the prey are the Harrison twins. The twins are in Chicago this weekend and Bino was seen by Dave from Testudotimes on a plane headed from DC to Chicago this morning. Keep in mind that the twins were on campus this week for an impromptu visit. This is a lot of interaction for one week. On another note, is anyone else irritated that no national media services have covered the twins visit this week. If we were Kentucky the visit would have made headlines on espn and rivals. SMH

UPDATED: Maryland Athletic Dept releases new field design

UPDATED 6/22/12:  While walking by the field yesterday, I observed something very interesting - the orange cooling tube grid was in its final cover up with gravel, but the tubes were not on the sidelines of the visitor's bench.  Could this be a Boston Garden "No A/C in the locker room for the visitors" type advantage for the Terps?  However, even with the bird's eye view that I like on the back concourse of Cole Field House, I could not fully see the grid fully extending on the home team's side.  I hope it was there and we built in an advtantage. Today at 5pm the Maryland Athletic Department released the new field design we have all anxiously been waiting for.  Here is the release:

"The University of Maryland on Wednesday formally announced plans for and unveiled renderings of the new FieldTurf Revolution surface that will be installed at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium. The privately funded project will result in the "coolest" synthetic turf field in the nation and will be completed in time for the 2012 football season which begins on Sept. 1.
In order to enhance playability for all sports expected to use the facility, and after various tests and discussions, it was decided the playing surface will be a traditional green in color. The end zones for football will have a design reminiscent of the Maryland state flag and reinforcing the "Maryland Pride" theme of Maryland Athletics."

Maryland Football lands 3 from FCA (and 2 more locals too)

Between last night and this morning, Maryland football has picked up 2 four star commits and another 3 star commit, all from the same school.  Derwin Gray (4 star OT), Yannick Ngakoue (4 star LB) and Cavon Walker (3 star LB) have all committed to play for Maryland in 2013.

Edit:  MD received commitments from 2 more local prospects this weekend,  6'5 280lb DE Mike Williams from Severn, MD (consensus 3 star) and DeAndre Lane, a 5'8, 170lb RB out of Catonsville, MD (2 star/not rated).  Lane is small, but he makes up for that with blazing speed, running a best 4.38 40 at a WV combine.  He may be a (really) poor mans Percy Harvin in that he can play in hte backfield or slot depending on the formation.  He'll bring needed speed to MDs offense.  Video here.

Byrd Stadium Field Prep Moving Along

It's like the old Abbott and Costello "Niagara Falls" skit ... "Step by Step, Slowly I Turned..."  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr6VBg1SiYI Well, step by step, slowly the construction crew turns the trucks as it lays out the gravel and drainage pipes....hopefully it will be ready by the 1st Terps home game vs. William and Mary - I kid, I kid...

Breaking News- RJ Curington

The dominos have begun to fall and as predicted, RJ Curington is a name that has begun to stand out. I cannot disclose all of the details at this point in time but his recruitment has been turned up a notch this past week. There was activity this past weekend, which included being asked to come to campus this week for a visit. RJ will be on campus today. As discussed previously, RJ is a borderline top 100 2013 SG who is currently very undervalued. Look for him to have a similar Summer to Nick Faust 2 summers ago. In addition, Nate britt has transferred to Oak Hill so RJ's will thrive playing alongside a 5 star pg. I will update this later after I receive word on how the visit went.

Update:  RJ Currington dominates portions of the scrimmages at this past weekends Under Armour (UA) Grind Session in Atlanta.  Link here.  Sounds like RJ is putting in hard work after missing out on the Top 100, he seems extremely motivated by the snub.

2014 PG Devon Hall

Devon Hall, a 2014 PG from Virginia Beach, visited MD over the weekend.  Sounds like Turgeon continues to impress on these visits, as Halls father had this to say about the visit:

"If I had to grade the visit," said Mark Hall, "it was a home run. "We met with the athletic director, some academic staff and the strength and conditioning coach, who was an unreal, fabulous guy."

Obviously, this is great for MD, as we're already in close with some top level 2014 recruits with Hall and Dwayne Morgan.  Hall also visited Georgetown over the weekend, and plans to visit Florida and FSU as well.  But for a 2014 unofficial visit, I'd say that it sounds as if things went as well as we could of hoped for outside of a commitment.

Damonte Dodd Update

In case you missed it, Damonte Dodd has stated on his twitter account that regardless of his year in prep school, he will remain committed to and attend MD.  Dodd will be the first member of the 2013 class.  Dave Telep recently wrote about Dodd stating that had the 2012 rankings not have closed, Dodd would have cracked the top 100 based on his recent play.  The question now becomes how high is Dodd's ceiling.  Top 50?  I will create a poll for voting.
