Pittsburgh jam fest

Props to Bball Purist for sending me the link.  We are still working on adding other authors on the site.

While this isn't 100% MD related, I think many of you will find interest in the news.  This weekend there is a very large AAU tourney in Pittsburgh.  Both the Houston Defenders and the DC Assult will be participating.  They both are receiving #1 seeds and have a first round bye.  Both teams will first play at 9:35 Friday night.

How will this effect MD?  Well I'm 99% sure everyone who visits this blog knows that the Harrison twins play for the Houston Defenders so this is an opportunity for the staff to watch a few games and recruit the twins to a certain degree.  Im not sure what the "contact rules" are currently for College coaches and recruits, but regardless it is an opportunity for the coaches to watch and for the recruits to see the coaches present.  Additionally, it is an opportunity to watch the DC Assult and Dodd as well as Kris Jenkins.

Here is a list of all the teams participating:  http://www.hoopgroup.com/hoopgroup/tournaments/under-armour-pittsburgh-jamfest-tournament-field/

Here is the schedule itself:  http://www.hoopgroup.com/hoopgroup/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/17U-PITT-Gold-Web-Final-Sheet1-Sheet1.pdf

I am curious what members of the staff will be attending the Jam Fest.  Keep in mind that the Capitol Classic is also this weekend.  Given the number of MD recruits playing in the game as well as Sam Cassell JR., I would think that some presence would be shown.  Does Turge go to Pittsburgh Friday night, Capitol Classic Saturday, and back to Pitt Sunday??  He could very well be earning his Frequent Flyer miles this weekend.

In other news, if you haven't already heard, Larry Brown accepted the SMU head coaching job.  I was hoping that he would take some sort of advisory role with MD.  If he wanted to get back into head coaching good for him.  I am wondering how much success he will have there.  Danny Manning at Tulsa also interests me.  I wonder the type of players they will each attract.

  1. In other news, I am going to work on a post analyzing the incoming class for all ACC Teams and figure out how the incoming players will replace those exiting, as well as allocate a grade for the class.

You will see I just created a poll on the upper right corner to grade MD's class. I personally would give them an A. I am very high on Mitchell and am consolidating rankings (Rivals, Scout, ESPN) and including him as a 4 star. Three 4 stars, one 4 star transfer, one borderline top 150 player, and one project. Thats an A in my book. A+ is going to take some 5 star recruits.

    1. Since we can leave comments on a poll, feel free to use this thread to explain your evaluation of MD's incoming class.

    2. I've got high expectations...gotta have a 5 star for me to make it an A. VERY solid class, especially adding Smotrycz as a transfer, but B+ for me. No reason MD can't be in contention and sign 5 star talent, and I'll reserve my A for when that happens

  2. I'd think Dalonte at a minimum will be out at the Jam Fest, especially since he is the big DCA connection. Perhaps Turge stays home and attends the Classic to show support for his future players?

Don't forget that Roddy Peters is playing for DCA this summer too. I think he is probably playing behind Nate Britt though. Peters is one of the backup options at PG for 2013 should the Harrisons, Jordan and Pookie fall through. Many think he is a sleeper prospect for the class as he doesn't play at one of the big private schools and until this year hasn't hit one of the big AAU teams. He is a local prospect that is infactuated with MD, claiming he would accept a scholarship offer on the spot if Turgeon were to offer. There were rumblings about him possibly re-classifying to 2014, but since that initial rumor I haven't heard anything.

Also, Baltimore UA Finest are playing too, so we should be getting a solid look at Dwayne Morgan and company as well. I'd think that would warrant Bino being up at the Jam Fest too, so our two local area recruiters should be there.

    2. Gotta love that it is an UA tourney as well. I would love to see a Defender vs. DC Assult final.

    4. Not sure if any of you saw it, but Andrew tweeted last night "We might have the best UNIS in the country #hd". The shoe game may be a bigger factor here than we think. BIG summer for UA basketball
