Damonte Dodd - New Video

Well I guess Turge and Co. can evaluate a player a lot better than most of us.  Here is the latest video of Damonte, who is playing with the DC. Assult this summer.  This video is about 100% better than the video that leaked a few months back.  Im not sure if he has improved that much or if it is a matter of him playing with much more skilled guards.

Another incoming big man, Damonte Dodd, had a big weekend at the Big Shots Event. Video: (via )

Thoughts?  I had been extremely negative about this recruit but I'm quickly starting to come around.

  1. Dodd will redshirt, I think we all agree on that. At least it appears he has the skill for this level. I think he'll be making contributions by his RS Soph. season. That is a solid 3 seasons from him though.

    1. Certainly looks like with him and Evan that the scout team will be atleast tall enough to be productive. DD has some long ass arms in there! I was really hoping he would go the prep school route, but it appears he may be more useful redshirting and helping in practice.

  2. Love seeing DD do well playing against/with top AAU talent:

    From their site:

"Many players stood out in DCA's championship run this weekend. Nate Britt was setting teammates up all weekend and was the catalyst. Damonte Dodd was a beast all weekend, and got a ton of big time dunks that can be seen in his weekend highlight tape. Obinna Oleka had a couple big time dunks as well that can be seen on his weekend highlight tape. Roddy Peters and Nigel Johnson played very well, each splitting time between the two guard positions. Kris Jenkins continued to be the player that he was all year with Gonzaga. Nothing too flashy, but very dependable, and always making the smart play."

  3. Damonte will be playing in a Pittsburgh AAU Hoops Fest this weekend. Now, we'll get more comparisons to make with higher levels of competition.

Finer Note: DD slams the ball, but hustles right back up court - nice....

    1. Same tourney as the twins. I wonder if they will get to match up against each other. Isnt the Capital Classic this weekend as well?

    2. Yep, on the 21st. Both times of the games are TBD still on their website.

I'd guess that Dodd would ask Turge/Dalonte whether they want him playing in the tournament or hte all-star game. My guess is the tournament, he has Cleare, Mitchell, Mike Tobey, Even Nolte and Joel James in front of him on his roster. The US All-Stars are LOADED inside, but the guard play is going to be suspect against the Capital region, who can put JA and Arnaud-Moto out on the floor at the same time.

    3. Oh, and let me put out there that I'm annoyed it is at TC Williams. If it was at Showplace Arena again, it's like 20min from my house and I'd be there to watch and give a good recap.

    4. DJ - they had the Cap classic set for 6:30 and 8:30 PM for the boys games.

    5. Is it still? The website had them set as TBD still, so I was confused.

    6. Now start times was switched to 6 and 8PM. Separate tickets for each game. I want to go, but I may have to talk my wife into going otherwise it'll be the "wanna spend Sat night with me" after she gets back from work @ 6pm - lol

  4. This video was extremely refreshing. Size and athleticism definitely looks like it is there. Now we need to see how the rest of his game comes together.

I know most of the time we talk about how bad AAU can be for some players, but in this case it is the exact opposite. Playing with DC Assault and specifically having Nate Britt dishing him the ball could work wonders for his game. Also, apparently Eddie Jordan is the DC Assault coach. That can't hurt either.
